Open
1. (of a live disc or location on the board) Not covered or only minimally covered and therefore able to be targeted by a direct shot of the cue disc. 2. A designation for a tournament that allows any player to participate regardless of age or player status (age is limited to 18 or above in Florida). 3. (in Texas) A designation for a tournament that allows doubles teams that consist of two players from two different clubs or mobile home parks.
Open Board
The board during play when most or all the scoring diagram is unobstructed and unoccupied by live discs.
Open Doubles
A designation for a doubles tournament that allows partner teams of any combination of player statuses, two Pros, two Amateurs, or one Pro with one Amateur.
Out
1. Shoots first in an end. "Yellow out" means that the player shooting yellow goes first; "black out" means that the player shooting black goes first. Yellow is usually out at the start of any game. 2. (of a disc) Displaced from a scoring position. (Example: "He bumped his kitchen disc out.") 3. Achieve the number of points necessary to win the game. (Example: "They had a big lead but failed to go out.") 4. In a direction away from the centerline towards a side of the court. (Example: "Unlike most of their courts, yellow on the number four court drifts out rather than in.")
Outdoor Shuffleboard
Outside
The side closest to the nearest edge of the board. (Example: “His disc is open on the outside.”)
