Game
A scoring disc that will give the player or partner team the number of points needed to win in a points game if it remains scoring at the end of the current frame.

Game On The Board
A player or partner team currently has the scoring disc(s) needed to win in a points game if the disc(s) remains scoring at the end of the current frame.

Game Point Rule
Estes' strategic rule for deciding whether to remove an opponent's game-winning disc or use the hammer to try to end the game. The recommendation differs between head and foot and is strategy from the Modular System, not a current governing rule.

Gandy
A guard that is centered in front of the apex of the scoring diagram.

Gauntlet
An opening between two guards on the same side of the board through which the cue disc can be shot without contacting either guard.

Glance
A shot where the cue disc strikes an edge of a target disc such that the cue disc alters course to stop in an intended favorable position on the board. Most often used to make the cue disc a hidden scoring disc. Syn: WICK.

Go On The Board
Shoot the cue disc directly onto the scoring diagram as an unhidden scoring disc.

Good
(of a disc) On the board as a scoring disc.

Good Out
An expression used to compliment a player upon making a shot that successfully clears that player's disc from the kitchen.

Grip
1. A handhold for the tip end of a cue that aids in maintaining hold when shooting. 2. The manner in which a player holds the cue for a shot.

Grip: Rest the end of the cue lightly on two or three fingers, and steady it with your thumb. Don’t grip tightly. You can place your ring or pinky finger behind the end of the cue to prevent the cue from slipping backwards when you push forward.

Grip, Bicycle
A grip that resembles the size and shape of grips used on bicycle handlebars, much longer than the standard rubber grip for a cue.

Grip, Rubber
A grip constructed of rubber, covering a small length of the cue shaft end.

Guard
1. A disc in a position on the board such that it would interfere with an opponent's attempt to target a disc that is behind it. The St. Pete and the Tampa are generally considered the best guard positions for hiding scoring discs. 2. BLOCK (defs. 1 & 2).

Gutter
The depressed channel of the alley. Most regulation courts have alleys that slope downward below the level of the court playing surface beginning at the baseline at each end, to a depth of four or more inches at mid-court, to form the gutter.
